The subject of this publication is the architectural revival of religious buildings. It focuses on contemporary churches which were constructed with reinforced concrete, an emblematic material of the 20th century. The choice is focused on churches in France, a nation strongly affected by war which has a large number of monuments representing architectural innovation. The 15 churches in this publication illustrate a search for extreme architecture, two categories have emerged: The religious ‘iconic’ buildings, some of which became museums and the ‘second class’ churches, daring in design, but scarcely known.
