Camii

German mosques are mostly situated in un-inviting industrial areas, often clashing with their surroundings. Stepping inside can be like entering a different world – colourful, welcoming and very alive. “Camii” is a photobook trying to convey what those mosques are like on the inside as well as the architecture and the surroundings. Current media coverage of Muslim communities and movements like PEGIDA inspired me to go and discover these people to create an opinion of my own. Taking photographs became a way to get closer to them and led to a meaningful experience.
